Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, would lay the foundation stone for the proposed airport for Nellore at Dagadarthi in January next year.The State government has sanctioned 2,072 acres for the proposed airport in Dagadarthi village in the district.The district administration has been directed to allot the necessary land which was in possession of some farmers for the airport. The project was handed over to Maharashtra Airport Development Company and the works will be completed in 36 months.The Chief Minister will also lay foundation stones for the construction of buildings for the Vikrama Simhapuri University and also release water from the Kandaleru reservoir.Maharashtra airports development company will invest Rs 250 crore and complete the task within 36 months. Steps are being taken to pay suitable compensation for 292.25 acres of patta land acquired for the airport. With regard to the Vikrama Simhapuri University, the district administration has already allotted 60 acres at Kakutur and earmarked another 300 acres at Amamcharla village near Nellore town.The first international flight is likely to land at the Renigunta airport near Tirupati in two months. The airport located has recently been accorded international status. SriLankan Airlines has expressed its willingness to operate flights to the temple town.
